We’ve all heard it: drink more water, keep hydrated. But there are times when you just want more than a glass of water. Something with more... flavor? That’s when this ginger infused water comes in! Read on for our notes and tips on how to make refreshing lemon ginger water at home.
Benefits of drinking infused water
If you get bored drinking plain water, you need to try this delicious and refreshing lemon ginger water. In addition to being incredibly tasty, infused water keeps you hydrated and can be associated with health benefits.
Ginger in water can help ease digestion and reduce nausea. It’s amazing how something this simple can come with so many perks.
The combination of ginger and cucumber in this recipe is surprisingly awesome. While the ginger gives it a bit of a kick, the cucumber cools and balances the drink.
Ingredients
Ginger: A few thin slices of ginger go a long way. I always keep my ginger in the freezer. For this recipe, I just leave it out on the counter for a few minutes and it softens enough that I can peel and slice it.
Lemon: For a large jar of water, you need one or two lemons. Don’t use too much lemons or the water will be bitter. Lemon is perfect for detoxification and adds a nice punch of flavor.
Cucumber: I had Persian cucumbers on hand, but you can also use English cucumber.
(optional) Mint: For extra flavor and nutrition, add a few mint leaves to the water.
Preparation
Peel the ginger and slice it thinly. Wash and slice the lemon and cucumbers as well. There is no need to peel the cucumbers.
Place the cucumber, lemon and ginger in a large jug and fill it with water. Let it sit for about one hour at room temperature to infuse. Then either refrigerate for one hour before serving or simply serve with ice.
Benefits of ginger
People have been using ginger for its medical benefits for centuries. It’s an anti-inflammatory food with many uses in different recipes, the easiest being simply adding it to water.
How long does this drink keep?
It’s best to drink this infused water within a few hours. However, it stays well in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
