Nothing beats a glass of cold fresh watermelon juice in summer. Naturally sweet and refreshing, this drink is perfect for warm weather!
Watermelon is my favorite summer fruit. It’s sweet, fresh and good for hydration since it’s 92% water. Today I’m going to show how to make one of my favorite summer drinks: watermelon juice!
This recipe calls for one ingredient only. You don’t need any water or sugar; all you need is a good, juicy watermelon!
The benefits of watermelon juice
As I mentioned before, watermelon juice is great for hydrating. It’s also sugar free since it’s naturally sweetened so it can cure your sugar craving easily. In addition, it’s a great source of vitamin C.
How to pick the best watermelon
There are a few things you should know before shopping for watermelon. A perfectly ripe watermelon has a few traits you can look for.
Look for the field spot
A field spot is the spot that the watermelon was resting on when it wasn’t picked yet. This spot is best to be yellow and dark. If the watermelon doesn’t have the field spot or it’s very white, it means that the watermelon is not yet ripe.
Webbing
You might see some lines on the watermelon known as webbing. The larger the webbing, the sweeter the melon.
Weight
The perfect watermelon should feel heavy for its size. Pick a few watermelons and see which one feels heaviest, that should be the ripest one.
Do I need to strain watermelon juice?
Only if you want a very clear juice. I usually simply blend watermelon in a blender for a minute or so and then serve immediately.
How long does watermelon juice last?
It’s best to serve fresh watermelon juice immediately but if you have leftovers, you can store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. Blend it for a few seconds before serving.
