Lemonade lovers, rejoice! Today I'm going to show you how to make one of my all time favorite lemonades. Ginger lemonade is tangy and sweet, with a nice kick from ginger that's irresistible. Easy ginger lemonade recipe
If you have some ginger sitting in the fridge and don't know what to do with it, make this delicious lemonade. The flavor is so unique, and it's a nice alternative to the classic lemonade. You can make a large batch of this lemonade and keep it in the fridge to enjoy during the day.

How to make fresh ginger lemonade
Prepare the lemon and ginger
Wash and dry the ginger. There is no need to peel it. Cut the ginger root into slices. Wash and dry the lemons. Cut one of the lemons into thin slices. Juice the remaining lemons.
Make the ginger lemon syrup
Place the ginger slices, sugar, water and lemon slices in a saucepan and place over medium heat. Bring to boil and then lower the heat. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
Steep
Turn the heat off and take the saucepan off the heat. Cover and let it sit for 30 minutes.
Make the lemonade
Discard the lemon and ginger slices. Pour the syrup into a pitcher and add the lemon juice. Add water to fill the pitcher and serve with ice.
A few alternatives
- Want to make this recipe sugar free? Use honey instead of sugar and proceed with the recipe as instructed.
- To make sparkling ginger lemonade, follow the recipe as instructed and when making the lemonade, instead of still water use club soda or sparkling water.
- It's best to use freshly squeezed lemon juice to make lemonade. However, if fresh lemons are not available, you can use bottled lemon juice.
- To make mint ginger lemonade add ½ cup mint leaves to the ginger and lemon slices and then simmer for a few minutes.

Fresh Ginger Lemonade Recipe
Ingredients
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 4 lemons
- 2 inches ginger
- 4 cups water more if needed
Instructions
- Place the sugar and water in a saucepan. Wash and dry the lemons. Slice one of the lemons and juice the remaining 3. Add the lemon slices to water and sugar and set the lemon juice aside.
- Wash and dry the ginger. Cut it into slices and add it to the sugar and water in the saucepan.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring it to boil. Simmer for 10 minutes. Turn the heat off, cover the saucepan and let it sit for 30 minutes.
- Discard the ginger and lemon slices. Pour the syrup into a pitcher and add the lemon juice.
- Add 4 cups of water and stir the lemonade. Taste and add more water if needed. Serve in glasses over ice.
Notes
- Instead of sugar, you can use honey or maple syrup.
- You can add mint, rosemary or lavender to the lemon sliced and ginger while simmering.
- To make sparkling ginger lemonade add sparkling water instead of still water.
