Notes
A few flavor variations for homemade simple syup:
Citrus: Use lemon, lime or orange peels to give a nice bright flavor to the syrup.
Cinnamon: Add one cinnamon stick to the syrup while it's simmering. Discard the stick before storing the syrup.
Herbs: A few springs of rosemary, mint or thyme would add a wonderful earthy flavor to the syrup.
Honey: Make a sugar free simple syrup by leaving out the white sugar and using equal parts honey and water.
Ginger: Add about 1 inch sliced ginger to the syrup while it's simmering. Discard the ginger slices before pouring the syrup into the bottle.
Vanilla: Split a vanilla bean and add it to the syrup. Once the syrup is ready, take the vanilla bean out and save it for another batch of vanilla simple syrup.
